PJ's has some of the best seafood in Pinellas County! We're in Florida every year for a month, and we eat at PJ's 8+ times before we leave. Our family can't get enough. It's my families #1 choice in Florida, but 2nd for me behind only Crabby Bills. PJ's has some great seafood. Good shrimp, oysters, etc. I just slammed a pound of crab legs which were amazing! They also have arguably the best grouper sandwich in the county. I recommend crab legs or the grouper, and the Philly cheesesteak or cheeseburger for land lovers. Their chicken tenders are pretty good and they may have the best French fries I've ever had.

Not as good as it used to be since they moved to the new location. Still. Good place for Stone Crabs and key lime though.

On our way to the beach it caught our eye and figured we'd try it. Nice atmosphere, great service. We tried the crab legs. Nothing I hate more than soggy crab legs and those were not. Perfectly cooked, easy to crack, not too salty. Very very good. The cold slaw was dry and not good, but didn't care after those crab legs. Also tried Key Lime pie which was surprisingly good though awkwardly enough a bit salty. Either way, we'll be back.

I started to love this place years ago when my mom lived down the street. If you wanted great local seafood, this was and is still the place to go in this area. They are much bigger than when they were across the street but managed to bring the small time quality with them. My favorite is a pound of steamed "fresh shrimp" with an ice cold beer. I'm sure you'll be satisfied with what ever is on the menu.

Good food. Good Service. Nice outdoor bar with live entertainment. Somewhat of an improvement over the old location across the street.

It moved to new location across the street, on the South side of Walsingham. This is my daughter's favorite place for oysters. She loves the Chicago Style Oysters. We got there at least twice a month for "Oyster Friday", my daughter's designated day. They just relocated south of Walsingham from their old location. A much needed improvement. The inside of the restaurant is three times the size of their old one with enhanced climate control. It has an open loft style with exposed ceiling and funky cars coming out of the wall along with their usual abrasive, smart ass sayings on the wall and of course, their parrot, PJ. They've also added an outdoor patio with live entertainment. It's hopping with a location that screams typical Florida fun, fun, fun. Love it. They did a great job on the patio and the restaurant. The parking lot is way too small for a Friday and Saturday night, especially between 5-7pm. Good luck finding a spot. The menu is the same. It's really just OK bar food type of menu. My son loves their scallops and they do a good job with that. I personally think they could use a revamp of their menu and now that they're in a bigger location, focusing on enhancing their fish preparations and selections. I'm not a huge fan of their food but gave it four stars because my daughter loves their oysters so much.

When in Indian Rocks Beach visit PJ's, if you are looking for a good place!! You will not be disappointed. There food is fresh and service exceptional. We had grouper sandwich and fried shrimp. Both entrees were great! The strawberry rum cake was so moist and the whipped cream addition made it such a treat. Drinks are cold and atmosphere is festive and tropical! Try it out.

Wouldn't go back. The service was okay and the food wasn't great, my dish came out cold. The one good thing is that they have a large menu to chose from.

We ordered the coconut shrimp and a dozen oysters. Both were on point and delicious which gave us high hopes for dinner. I had the mahi tacos, very dry and not much meat. My sister had the blacked shrimp which she said 1/2 where all blackens and the other had no seasoning. We had someone order the fried fish (forget which kind) but it was overly oily and we had something else that I can't even remember. I'd go back for the oysters but that may be it.

I really hate to give a low review because the staff was awesome. Looking at the outside it looked like a really co place. Unfortunately the food did not meet the standard. For the price, I expected a higher quality meal, but that did not happen. The prices are extremely high for the quality of food. The wife's mahi mahi sandwich was extremely dry and the lobster Alfredo had lobster that was chewy and tasted really bad. The rib eye sandwich was really old meat and most was cut away. I hope that I have a better experience if I de ode to come back.

DECORATIONS SCREAM TOURISTS This place is the definition of a tourist destination--come on--there's paper towel holder dangling from the ceiling above your heads, mismatching wall decorations of old Hollywood, restaurant retail jokes, sea fare, and dollar bills written and left by past patrons. It's very bright inside and often packed with visitors. FOOD WAS OKAY The food was decent--most items seem to play it safe so nothing screamed for a return visit. The Seafood tends to lean on the fried side and features the typical naturally 'bland' fish which they make flavorful by the spices inside the fried dough. The Tuna Sashimi looked pretty but was overpriced especially for the quality of Fish, Seaweed and even the Sauce. My Mahi Mahi Taco was created as an afterthought of the chef - shredded Cheese out of a bag, Flour Tortillas (out of a bag), Salsa (most likely store-bought). At least the Clam Chowder, Gumbo, and Prime Rib dinner were more decent--but it's hard to go wrong with those. BUT IT'S STILL PACKED Its location will promise a continuous stream of people no matter what. Tourists and live music on the patio set against a busy street. At least our server was nice although her timing of appearances were off (kinda slow).

Well the experience didn't start out too well. The hostesses had no idea what they were doing...I don't mind waiting, but they were completely incompetent. They crossed off a party of 6 when they actually never seated them, only to realize it once that lady notified them of her party not being seated yet. After being told it would only be about 30 minutes, we checked back in after 40 and the hostess had crossed our name off as well! After being seated for about 5 minutes, the hostess came back to our table and asked if we would move tables because she messed up on seating another large party. Hot Mess!! As for the food and waitress, they were good. Me and my wife split the calamari as an app. It was very good and just enough for two. We also split the PJ's super combo. Got the 8 oz lobster tail, 10 fried shrimp and 1/2 pound snow crab. Again, good for the two of us. I would go back again but if I got the same service from the hostesses it would be my last.

Cheap and un-flexible. Was going to get the lobster and two sides. Asked if instead of one side I could get the clam chowder instead (same price). I was told no. It's not something they do. I told the waitress to ask the manager if she could ask anyway. I said look, you guys can have a $40 sale or a $2.99 sale. She went and asked the manager and they still said no. So I went up and implored to John manager and asked why they couldn't. His response was its just something the owner decided on. So that's the reason. Because I said so. I ended up getting the small bowl of chowder which was adequate and saving $40. I hope they see that being cheap will cost them in the end. Think I'll go to LuLus across the street next time.

The atmosphere is very casual. Monday night performer was very entertaining. Scallops were great. Very wide selection of meals and appetizers. I really liked that the food was piping hot when it got to our table. 4 1/2 stars.

The atmosphere here is definitely cool. Some funny and talented local COVER ROCKERS grace the TIKI BAR OUTSIDE, the walls are covered in FUNKY DECORATIONS, and seriously... paper towels dangle from hangers from the ceiling. The SERVERS ARE FUN-LOVING and it always seems like EVERY SEAT HERE IS FILLED with loud, friendly people... but the FOOD IS NOT GREAT! (Not completely true--the CLAM CHOWDER and the gumbo is PRETTY GOOD. But there's a lot of seasoning in each that I'm not so sure whether the seafood inside is fresh or not.) All the FOOD there SEEMS like it was PREVIOUSLY FROZEN. I felt like I was at a seafood fundraising dinner where budget was an issue; mashed potatoes and fries came from FREEZER BAGS, broccoli had to be THAWED, salsa came from a BOTTLE. And it didn't just taste like it--it LOOKED like it. This is totally a TOURIST SPOT - all flashy on the outside to grab the passers-by and then they stuff them with CHEAP FOOD.

I liked this place. My kid loves the parrot (pet, not to eat). I had delicious oysters and gator. Lots of really great beers. There was live music outside. There are also free dollars on the wall for the taking.

Best fish spread you will ever eat!!!! the food is delish. Good service and atmosphere. Parking is a little rough, but that's good thing because that means they are busy

So how do I say this... NO, NO, NO!!! So we arrived at this "oyster bar" with high hopes since it's sits right next to the inter-coastal waterway. When we pulled into the crowded parking lot I saw a crowded restaurant with a cheesy band playing throwback tunes. Perfect for the pseudo touristy place. I was hoping to get good oysters and a decent bite to eat since down near the gulf I have yet to have a poor seafood experience.... till now. The waitress was impersonal and short with us. Now I know that it's busy and all the tables are hopping but seriously I watched three other waitresses who were on their game and made sure that their dinners were taken care of! Something as simple as keeping my drink filled up after it sits empty for quite some time. So already I'm a bit put off by the lackluster service. We ordered our appetizers calamari and a cup of clam chowder... well we should have known right then that we were in for trouble. The calamari is painfully obvious that it is frozen then they deep fry it and well rubber with breading. Next the clam chowder wasn't made from fresh clams or made that day it was dropped out of a can, heated up, and tasted like I had bought a can of Progresso clam chowder. During this time we had decided on our entree's and again the waitress would zip by our table check in on a new table or stop by and existing table then run off again. Finally when she was inputting an order we got her attention and luckily she was able to take our order. I ordered the oysters on the half shell raw and the clam strips. The other person in my party ordered the shrimp fettuccine alfredo. Boy oh boy were we in for a shock! My oysters on a half shell came out on the traditional plate of ice and the ice was half melted with them floating in water. Well off I went to eat one of my favorite things oysters raw! I did just that with the first oyster raw with nothing else on it. To say it was a serious let down would be an understatement. It had no flavor! Like NO FLAVOR! So after that I had to put cocktail sauce on ALL OF MY OYSTERS!!! Out came the clam strips and fettuccine; to say it was bad would be paying it to high of a compliment! The clam strips were over breaded, rubbery, obviously frozen, blah experience. So I decided to drown them in tartar sauce and make it work. I could have except the tartar sauce was disgusting yes I said it disgusting. My partner had the fettuccine and as she was eating it stopped half way and gave me one of the shrimp in her dish. My goodness they still had their shells on them!!! SO I am writing this in the morning because after $80 dollars of poor frozen food being passed off as some kind of good food I have woken up to it still feeling like a rock in my stomach and I spent the night with a belly ache. SO SAVE YOUR MONEY, SAVE YOUR TIME, SAVE YOUR STOMACH, AND RUN RUN RUN!!!! It's a tourist trap that doesn't actually cater to good food and service but the you're a tourist we'll only see you once crowd!

Great atmosphere... Decent food. Your typical beach fare. What I loved about this place was the waiting area was not just standing or sitting. They had hula hoops for the kids (and adults)... Near the music... And plenty of seats. The inside is pretty neat too. Of course during the peak season the place is packed so expect to wait a bit.

The atmosphere was fun, the Hulahoops in the waiting area are a great idea! Food was ok but nothing special for being in the area.

I have had dinner at the new PJ's location five or six times since it opened and have not fully enjoyed my meal on any occasion. The main issue with the new restaurant is the overcrowding of tables. Every space has a table crammed into it: aisles, lobby, and kitchen area. You might be seated next to the hostess with customers crowded around you or you might be seated directly in the servers' path while they do their best to wait tables. You might be seated a few feet from the kitchen with your chair on the tiles rather than the carpeted dining area. Most likely, wherever you sit, you will be uncomfortable. The food is still just OK and the atmosphere is similar to the old PJ's, but it's obvious that the restaurant's priority is to cram as many customers into the building as possible with no regard for their comfort.

They have my favorite meal here. Order the broiled grouper in garlic cream sauce, you won't be disappointed!!!!

    (5)
  • Thomas J.

Ordered the fried grouper sandwich. Looked good when it arrived. Appeared to be a 7 inch piece of breaded fish. Unfortunately the breading was mostly empty, and contained only a 2 to 3 inch, very thin piece of fish. The best our waiter could says was "Ya that happens". You mean this has happened before? Now I'm not much of a cook, but I know that fish doesn't shrink more than 50% when you cook it. Based on the consistency of the fish, it wasn't fresh and was likely frozen. Shame on you PJ's. Won't be going back to this rip off joint.

Had the stuffed flounder. It was good. Chowder was excellent. Average service. Above average, but not excellent. 3.5 stars but I can't rate in halves.

  • James C.

Service was good and speedy. The food however was not good. The fried clams and fish had no seasoning. The fries taste the same as what you would get at long john silvers or captain d's. The crab stuffed flounder was also under seasoned and flavorless. This a a frozen food kinda place that relies on over charging tourist and people who don't know what fresh hand made food taste like. Would not recommend.

Had a great meal here. Started with the onion rings, crispy thanks to another Yelper's suggestion. They may have been the best we ever had, thanks in no small part to the horseradish dipping sauce. Dinner was an order of cornmeal breaded shrimp and an order of coconut shrimp. Again, the sauces were excellent - a hearty cocktail sauce and a nice sweet sauce that went well with the coconut shrimp. We would have loved to sit on the patio to listen to the music but cannot tolerate the smoking permitted and quite intense there. Big bummer.

Great seafood, great location and the best clam chowder you can find! I have done Boston and had the "best of the best" but this is the top of the food chain. Chicago Oysters and a Bowl of Chowder is the best lunch on the beach! Perfection!

  • Michael G.

Note: My experience here is identical to my experience at the other location in St. Petersburg so my review is the same. I love PJ's! I usually get the shrimp scampi which is very good. It's definitely worth the price because there's a good portion of shrimp, plus it comes with garlic bread and two sides. I get the salad and French fries as my side which are very good. The onion rings are also very tasty - just make sure you ask for them extra crispy. The servers are always nice and the food is consistent. The atmosphere is great. Usually waits in season (winter) so you may need to make reservations.

Ate at the new location for the first time last evening. They did a nice job of maintaining the fun feel of the original site while upgrading on location and entertainment. And the food was just as reliable and enjoyable as the original. Bright and pleasant service from Bradly.

Awesome fresh grouper! Got it beer battered and it was well seasoned and crunchy. The grouper was moist and it was a huge piece. Probably 10 ounces. Great coleslaw and fresh fries. Only drawbacks are the "kiddie"size cups used for iced tea and a heavy smell of antiseptic near the restrooms.

It is WAY too loud in the building, nothing to block the noise from the tables. We were first seated RIGHT in front of the kitchen. We decided to move to the bar because we didn't want to hear dishes being washed through-out our entire meal. We moved to the bar and were delighted with the service we had there. However, all of the food was bland, even the "famous" Clam Chowder. The oysters were decent but pretty small compared to other restaurants on the beach. The service was good. We ordered the fish tacos (the fish was like rubber), a dozen raw oysters (small, but tasty), clam chowder (completely tasteless, I had to add salt and hot sauce to get it to have any flavor), and the caramel cheesecake which was good. My boyfriend and I both agreed that we will not be returning unless it is for the cheesecake.

It's the basic seafood place. It is good though. Gumbo was very good and glad to see okra in it. The dozen oysters were nice and fresh. Several were very large which was a major plus. Seating is a hit jammed but island property needs maximized so I get it. The steamed shrimp were very flavorful too. We ended up just ordering all appetizers as I wanted a sampling of flavors and not just a fish or shrimp dinner. It was a good choice.

Had dinner here on 1/5/15. Tried to get in on Saturday but it was packed. Came back today, Monday, and while busy we were able to get in. Had a great waiter who provided great service. Had grouper sandwich, Maui tacos, coconut shrimp. All was good! Nice vacation feel to the place. Excellent waiter (Jeffrey F.). We will be back.
